1. Put down your eyes and rest them on that rock.
Keep them fixed until two meters away, maybe three.
Just think to yourself, "Pebble, how nice you look today."
Then lift your gaze steadily, unfocused, aloof.

2. Shuffle forward, glance back. Pull your awkward hands
from your pockets. Swing your arms nonchalant
but not too much.
Not like plastic bags in the wind.
Not like frenzied cyclones twisting, whirling,
whipping up a million projectiles, hurling them at the sky.
Better yet, pretend they don't exist.
No, they are not wrapped around that waist, that
fleshy warm center, that
apparition walking toward you with beating heart.

3. Say hello and then keep walking.
